The Fürstenzug, or Procession of Princes, is a monumental mural depicting a mounted procession of the rulers of Saxony. This stunning work of art, crafted from approximately 23,000 Meissen porcelain tiles, is a unique and captivating sight that offers a glimpse into the region's rich history and artistic heritage. It's a must-see for anyone visiting Dresden. The original Fürstenzug was created between 1871 and 1876 using sgraffito, a form of scratch work. However, the sgraffito began to deteriorate due to weather conditions. To preserve the historical record, it was replaced with the current porcelain tile mural between 1904 and 1907. The mural depicts 35 margraves, electors, dukes, and kings of Saxony, along with scientists, artists, craftsmen, soldiers, and children. It serves as a visual chronicle of the Wettin dynasty, which ruled Saxony for centuries. Visitors can admire the Fürstenzug at any time of day, as it is an outdoor mural. Transportation
The Fürstenzug is located in the heart of Dresden's old town and is easily accessible on foot. Tram lines 4, 8, and 9 stop at Theaterplatz, which is a short walk from the mural. Bus lines 75 and 94 also stop nearby. From Dresden Hauptbahnhof (main train station), you can take tram lines 8 or 9 to Theaterplatz.
